The History of Al-Tabari - An Abridged Rendition
Al Ṭabarī’s History is the largest and arguably the most renowned surviving historical work from the third–fourth centuries AH. It presents a comprehensive account of history from the beginning of creation up to the year 302 AH and was authored by Muḥammad ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī (d. 310 AH).
The work is divided into two main sections: the period before Islam and the period following the advent of Islam. The first section is comparatively brief and addresses topics such as the concept of time, the creation of the world, Arab tribal groups, the Persian antecedent kingdoms, and the early history of the Noble Messenger. The second section begins with the rise of Islam and recounts historical events in a chronological, year-by-year manner until the conclusion of the work.
